Theme & Atmosphere

Red torii gates and paper lanterns are on the sides of the grid in Hyakki Yoichi, with the game set at night with the full moon beaming down. The premium symbols are yokai creatures drawn in a hand-illustrated style. You’ll find the characters of Tengu, Kappa, Kitsune, and Oni, along with some smaller creatures and Card Royals on wooden plaques. There’s traditional Japanese music playing in the background to set the scene.

Feature Overview

The main feature in Hyakki Yoichi is its Free Games Round, where a Multiplier starts at 1x and goes up by 1x every time a winning spin comes in. You get 12 Free Spins whenever 3 or more Scatters appear anywhere on the grid. As well as the Scatters, there’s a Wild that only appears on Reels 2, 3, and 4. It substitutes for everything bar the Scatter. The Free Games can’t be retriggered, but you can build a solid Multiplier and score big prizes with the yokai characters.

Technical Specs & Mechanics

Hyakki Yoichi is played on a 5-Reel, 3-row grid with 243 Ways to Win. All symbols pay left to right for 3 matches on adjacent Reels, starting with Reel 1. The Scatter, however, is the exception – it pays wherever it appears as long as you have 3+ of them. One thing to be aware of is that only the highest winning combination per symbol type gets paid out each spin.

Bet & Paytable Analysis

Bets can be anywhere from 0.30 to 240 per spin in this enchanted world. Tengu is the symbol at the top of the regular paytable, paying 10x for 5 of a kind, and then you’ve got Kappa, Kitsune, and Oni after that in descending order. There are a handful of smaller Yokai Creatures between those premiums and the Card Royals at the bottom, which go from A down to J. The Scatter also pays on its own – 20x for 5, 10x for 4, and 2x for 3 – and these pay out regardless of where they’re positioned on the grid.
